We are hiring one full-time, permanent Senior Civil Engineer, Distribution Standards position working out of Edmonton, AB.
The Senior Civil Engineer will lead the design, interpretation, and authentication of engineering standards and specifications for distribution systems. This role ensures all projects meet applicable codes and standards, while addressing safety, environmental, operational, and customer requirements. The successful candidate will oversee engineering activities, guide junior staff, and engage with customers impacted by EPCOR’s work.
What you’d be responsible for
- Lead and authenticate complex engineering designs and standards in civil, structural, and geotechnical disciplines
- Lead continuous improvement and Management of Change initiatives across engineering processes
- Guide stakeholder-level design reviews to ensure constructability and system compatibility, especially with operations and field teams
- Collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders to align engineering practices and share best practices
- Ensure compliance with regulatory codes (CSA, Alberta Building Code, Alberta Electrical Utility Code) and EPCOR standards
- Provide field support and conduct material reviews and inspections during construction and maintenance activities
- Monitor performance metrics and drive improvements in design, quality and efficiency
- Mentor and coach engineers, designers, and technical staff; identify development needs and deliver targeted training programs
- Represent EPCOR in external working groups and committees to influence industry standards and share mutual learnings
What’s required to be successful
- Degree in Civil Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or a Diploma in Civil Engineering with Professional Licensee (P.L. Eng.) designation
- 8+ years of progressive experience in civil/structural/geotechnical utility design, construction, and field support
- Advanced technical expertise in utility infrastructure including duct banks, manholes, vaults, poles, excavation, and aerial power distribution structures
- Geotechnical knowledge focusing on open cut excavation, soil analysis, and shoring design for open cut excavation
- Strong knowledge of Alberta Electric Utility Code, CSA standards, and Occupational Health and Safety regulations (including Part 32 and OSHA 1926)
- Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, and Autodesk Robot
- Experience in designing, planning and executing new initiatives and implementing new processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, manage budgets, solve highly technical problems, and manage cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills with a focus on continuous improvement and customer quality expectations
